How Much Does Laundry Pickup Service Cost in the San Gabriel Valley?
Per-pound versus per-bag pricing, what a real week of laundry costs, and the fees most services do not mention until checkout.
The two ways laundry services charge
Almost every wash and fold service in Los Angeles County prices one of two ways. The first is by weight, usually between $1.75 and $2.75 per pound in the San Gabriel Valley, with a minimum of 10 to 20 pounds. The second is by the bag, where you pay a flat price for a bag of a fixed size no matter what is in it.
Per-pound sounds precise, and it is, but it is precise in a way that works against you. You cannot weigh your laundry at home with any accuracy, so you never know the price until the service has already washed it. Towels and jeans are heavy. Kids' clothes are light. A "20 pound minimum" can be one big bath towel load or two weeks of a toddler's outfits. The bill arrives after the fact, and it is different every time.
Per-bag pricing fixes the number before you book. We charge $34.99 per standard 13-gallon kitchen bag, washed, dried and folded, plus $14.99 pickup and delivery once per order. Two bags is the minimum, there is no maximum, and the number on the booking ticket is the number you pay. The trade-off is honesty in the other direction: if you stuff a bag until it will not tie, it counts as two.
What a real week actually costs
A 13-gallon kitchen bag holds roughly 12 to 15 pounds of dry laundry when it is full and tied. For one adult, that is about a week: seven or eight outfits, underwear and socks, a towel or two, maybe a set of sheets. So a two-bag order covers about two weeks for one person, or one week for two people, and comes to $84.97 delivered, or $69.98 on your first order when delivery is free.
Compare that with the per-pound version of the same order. Twenty-five pounds at $2.25 is $56.25, plus a delivery or service fee that most services add on top, commonly $5 to $10 each way, plus tax where it applies, plus the tip the app prompts you for. Per-pound services in this area land between $70 and $95 for the same two bags once everything is counted. The headline number is lower; the total is not.
Then there is the question of what "delivery" means. Some services charge delivery per bag or per pound. We charge it once per order. Three bags, four bags, ten bags: still $14.99, and free the first time.
The fees that show up at checkout
When you compare services, look for these before you decide:
- Minimums. A $20 minimum on a per-pound service quietly becomes a $35 order once you hit it with a small load.
- Rush and next-day fees. Many services charge extra for anything under 48 hours. Our standard turnaround is back within 24 hours, and there is no faster tier to upsell you into.
- Subscriptions. A discounted per-pound rate often requires a monthly plan. We have weekly service, but it is a held day and an email the day before, not a contract or a card on file.
- Tips. Fair to give, but it is another five to fifteen percent that was not in the ad. Nothing is paid at the door with us, and there is no tip prompt.
- Detergent upsells. Scent, sensitive-skin, eco: each an add-on. Our default is fragrance-free at no charge, scent booster is $1 per bag, and you can leave your own detergent on top of the bags for free.
How we set our price, in plain terms
We are a small, local service, and we would rather explain the number than hide it. $34.99 a bag covers the wash, the dry, the folding, the fresh bags your laundry comes back in, and the commercial machines and detergent. $14.99 covers the driving: a round trip to your door and back, twice, across a service area that runs from Altadena to Whittier. We waive it on your first order because we want you to try us without paying for the drive, and after that it is the same flat fee on every order, whatever the size.
There is no tax on the service, no tip prompt, and no surcharge for paying with PayPal or Venmo instead of a card. The number on the ticket is the number on your receipt. If we ever change a price, it changes on the site first, not on your bill.
Is it worth it?
Run your own numbers. A laundromat trip for two loads costs about $12 to $16 in machines, plus detergent, plus two to three hours of your Saturday, plus the drive. Put a price on your own Saturday and the math tips toward pickup fast. Even with machines at home, the folding, the switching and the putting away still take an evening a week; pickup gives that evening back for the cost of one takeout order. Start with a single order in a week that is too full, and if the folded stack on the doorstep feels as good as we think it will, make it weekly.
